While often difficult to do, these policies are enforced as to maintain a comfortable learning environment for everyone. Please be respectful of time. Do not interrupt ongoing classes. Read policy to ensure all information is understood.
When we first started this company in 2008 we barely had any “policy.” Growing and teaching thousands of people every year our policy has evolved into a very lengthy document. This document demonstrates the trials and tribulations our company has gone though. Every policy, every stipulation, every topic, and every situation / scenario has a story behind it. We have had to add to this policy repeatedly throughout the years. While long, please do not be intimidated by it. The majority of rules in the policy concern attendance. Please review your schedule before registering for class. Please be considerate before registering for a class. Many of our classes sell out, often we have students asking if we can take one more student. Please show up on time to the class you picked to attend and the need to review or follow any policy should never come up.
When registering for class you agree to the rescheduling and cancellation portion of this policy. The entire policy is also included in the confirmation email you receive immediately after registering for class. We hope you understand our position on these issues contained in this document. Again, we hope to not have to reference these policies during our interaction together.

Class Registration: It is the sole responsibility of the student to register for and attend the class necessary for their job and/or school purpose, if applicable. Please review our Frequently Asked Questions page and our class descriptions page for information about the differences in the classes we offer. If you registered for the wrong class please contact Chicago CPR Now immediately so we can help you expedite the transfer in to the right class by replying to this message. You will then be responsible for the difference of the class including any associated fees with rescheduling (see following policies and Promotional Code Policy below).
If you wish to cancel or reschedule please notify Chicago CPR Now immediately via email.
Phone calls and voice mails are not acceptable means of notifying us of your intentions, they must be done via email, please respond to this message.
In regard to rescheduling, email our office immediately as this is time sensitive. If you choose to reschedule your class more than 14 days prior to the day of your class a $5 process fee will be assessed. If rescheduling within 14 days, the following fee schedules apply. Rescheduling must be complete before the end of business hours the day before your class otherwise you will be considered a no show, see policy. See the following schedule below.
In regard to cancelling, email our office immediately as this is time sensitive. If you choose to cancel your class more than 14 days prior to the day of your class a $5 processing fee will be assessed with the exception of the Online option “eLearning” classes (see below) or our package offers (see below). Otherwise the following schedules below.
Example: if your class is scheduled to start on the 21st day of the month, you can reschedule/cancel for a $5 difference before the end of business hours on the 6th of the month. Rescheduling/Canceling on the 7th of the month, till the end of business hours on the 13th of the month will be considered more than seven (7) days, rescheduling/cancelling from the end of business hours on the 13th of the month to the end of business hours on the 20th of the month will be considered within seven (7) days. If rescheduling/canceling within 14 days of class the following policies will apply (see below).
Heartsaver CPR / AED: (click for course description)
Rescheduling* – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $10 rescheduling fee, rescheduling within seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $20 rescheduling fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Cancellation† – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $15 cancellation fee, cancelling within seven (7) days prior to the start of your class there is a $25 cancellation fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Heartsaver FIRST AID / CPR / AED: (click for course description)
Rescheduling* – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $15 rescheduling fee, rescheduling within seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $35 rescheduling fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Cancellation† – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $25 cancellation fee, cancelling within seven (7) days prior to the start of your class there is a $45 cancellation fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).

Rescheduling* – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $15 rescheduling fee, rescheduling within seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $20 rescheduling fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Cancellation† – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $15 cancellation fee, cancelling within seven (7) days prior to the start of your class there is a $25 cancellation fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Advanced Cardiac Life Support / Pediatric Advanced Life Support: (ACLS description) (PALS description)
Rescheduling* – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $30 rescheduling fee, rescheduling within seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $50 rescheduling fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Cancellation† – more than seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $35 cancellation fee, cancelling within seven (7) days prior to the start of the class there is a $75 cancellation fee (see Promotional Code Policy as well).
Combination Classes – such as BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ACLS and PALS:
Regarding Rescheduling and Cancellation – if you have already used a Promo Code to register for any of the classes you purchased, the above schedule for Cancellation and Rescheduling applies in respect to the date you registered for each individual class (the day you purchased the package / combination offer is insignificant). If you have used your promo code to register for a class and wish to cancel the remaining class(es), the full price of the classes will be assessed and a 15% cancellation fee will be applied to the remaining balance. If you attended a class and wish to cancel the remaining class(es) the full price of the class(es) you attempted will be assessed and a 15% cancellation fee will be applied to the remainder of your refund (if applicable).
* Rescheduling must be made via email at the earliest possibility. Rescheduling must be complete as soon as possible and before the end of business hours the day before your scheduled class (see website for business hours). Emails, phone calls, voice mails after business hours the day before a class will be addressed the next business day. If this is the case you will be considered a “no show” and subject to no refund. Please plan accordingly. If you reschedule, then decide to cancel your class you are subject to no refund. When rescheduling, your new date must be decided upon within ten (10) days of your notice or by the end of business hours the day before your scheduled class date, whichever comes first. After ten (10) days or on the day of your class you will be considered a no show and are now subject to no refund. If your card has been printed for your initial class and you reschedule in another month/year, you are able to purchase a new card to reflect the new date, otherwise your card will reflect your initial date. See card issuance below.
† Cancellations must be made via email at the earliest possibility. Cancellation notices made after business hours the day before your scheduled class (see website for business hours) will not be addressed till the day of your class, resulting in a same day cancellation. Therefore, you must notify Chicago CPR Now at the earliest possibility if you chose to cancel. All emails, phone calls, voice mails after business hours the day before a class will be addressed the next business day. Again, if this is the case you will be considered a “no show” and subject to no refund. Please plan accordingly.
There are no refunds or credits to cancel or reschedule the day of class or thereafter.
Absent students, significantly late students, or “no shows” as described herein will not receive any refund or credit. The absent or late student will have to then register again for another class. While emergency situations will be taken into consideration on a case by case basis, do not wait to notify us the day of class or assume there will be any kind of refund. Very seldom are there exceptions to this policy – especially when involving same day cancellations. Email is the only means to contact us in this situation. Please be sure to review the Tardy Policy as well. Cancelling or attempting to cancel a class the day of is not acceptable. Requests to reschedule the day of class are not acceptable. As our FAQ page suggests, that we encourage you to read before registration, this is a difficult policy to enforce but we must in order to assure everyone has an enjoyable learning experience.
Arriving Late: If you do arrive significantly late, it is imperative you do NOT interrupt the class that is going on. Interrupting a class in session is unacceptable. Interrupting a class in session will weigh greatly on our decision to allow a student to reschedule their appointment. The time frame “significantly late” varies depending on which class you are registered for. Therefore time frames such as “15 minutes” or “5 minutes” are not able to describe what significantly late means – they are both considered significantly late. If there is a sign on the door please refer to the sign and use your best judgment otherwise. If there is no sign on the door, do not interrupt class – email our office instead. Please arrive on time. If you find a note on the door please abide by the notes instructions – typically asking you to write down your name and phone number and to email the office explaining you saw the note on the door along with the directions on the note and the circumstances surrounding your significantly late arrival. If the door is locked class has started, knocking on the door or opening the door while class has begun thus interrupting class is strongly discouraged as the instructor will notify the office of this occurrence. The instructor does not have the authority to make decisions regarding rescheduling – that is up to the administrative staff which you can reach at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you find a note on the door and/or the door locked, you are considered significantly late. There is no reason to interrupt class or argue with the instructor especially in the presence of other students who have arrived on time and are in the middle of class no matter what the circumstances are. Notes on tardy students being significantly late will be made and these notes will be used when considering a decision about rescheduling. Being on time for class cannot be stressed enough. As our FAQ page suggests, that we encouraged you to read before registration, this is a difficult policy to enforce but we must in order to assure everyone has an enjoyable learning experience.
Inclement Weather: Chicago CPR Now has yet to reschedule any classes due to inclement weather nor do we anticipate the need to reschedule any classes due to impending inclement weather conditions. If weather conditions significantly exceed any potential expectation/prediction or any safety concern then Chicago CPR Now will evaluate the need for rescheduling and then we will contact you within an appropriate amount of time. Please refrain from calling/emailing Chicago CPR Now inquiring about any cancellations – you will be notified in any event of rescheduling in an appropriate amount of time via email and in some cases phone calls via the information you provided at the time of registration. In any event of cancellation due to inclement weather conditions arises students will have the opportunity to reschedule themselves into any future class that has available seats. We strongly suggest that you anticipate on being available for class on days when weather may become inclement as our policy is not to cancel class. On days of inclement weather there is often plenty of warning and notice that should allow you enough time to prepare to be on time for class.
Processing / Convenience fee: In almost every circumstance there is a minimum $5 processing / convenience fee. This includes but is not limited to: rescheduling, cancelling, signing up for the wrong class, and misuse of promo codes. Using a credit card in our office or over the phone for registration or other fees is subject to a 5% convenience fee, please use our online registration process to avoid this.
Refunds: Refunds are often issued via a bank issued check sent via the United States Postal Service. A refund to your credit card you used during the registration process is an option with a 5% convenience fee. Checks and credits are often done on the day of your scheduled class or shortly after. Persons who paid cash may be provided a bank issued check, an appointment to pick up this check is likely – keep that in mind if you decide to pay with cash.
eLearning / Online Classes (classes that use keycodes/course links) or combination
Classroom & eLearning / Online Classes:
There are absolutely NO refunds for eLearning / Online Classes (or portions of) once a keycode/course link has been issued. Depending on the disposition of your Skills Check a seat can be reserved for a traditional class in a classroom at discounted rates if necessary. This will be discussed during your Skills Testing appointment. If you registered for a course that includes a classroom portion and an online / eLearning option cancellation is not an option for the eLearning / online component. However, the classroom-based portion of the class can be refunded or rescheduled. Fees associated with cancellation and rescheduling will apply to the above schedule. If there was a promotion or reduced fee associated with the cost of this class that promotion or discount will be voided in respect to cancellation. The remainder of the eLearning / online class maybe required at the time of your Skills Check or before your course completion eCard is issued.

2) * * * * * CARD ISSUANCE / REPLACEMENT POLICY * * * * *
Card Issuance: Course completion eCards are scheduled to be issued at the end of the class upon successful completion. Successful completion for BLS for Healthcare Providers, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) includes a score of 84% or better on a multiple-choice test to receive your card.
There is no test for Heartsaver classes (CPR / AED and/or First Aid).
Course Completion Cards / eCards:
All course completion cards are now issued electronically, via eCards (October 2017). These eCards will be issued to students who successfully complete the class (and who have agreed to include them in the cost of their class) via email supplied at the time of registration. This is the current means of issuance allowed by the American Heart Association. Paper cards that you may be accustomed to receiving are no longer an option for use. This is the only means of card issuance. All participants are to receive course completion eCards (American Heart Association). Our Heartsaver classes do not include the cost of this eCard. Instead during the registration process the cost of the card is listed at the time of payment. This is because this is the biggest portion of content / material the American Heart Association imposes. Chicago CPR Now could have raised the entire cost of the class to demonstrate this, but many students complained, and we wanted to illustrate the breakdown of costs regarding course materials and ensure students know that we are not profiting in the sale of course completion eCards. Student’s must complete this portion of their purchase to receive their card. The means of listing the card on a separate line item may not be the most popular way of doing thigs, but it make it clear where your money is going. Chicago CPR Now wants you to know that the rate we assess for these course completion eCard’s are the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Chicago CPR Now does not profit from the sale of course completion eCards.

3) * * * * * BOOK POLICY * * * * *
The cost of books (or Student Manuls) are not included in the price of class. Students are encouraged to review the book prior to class. You can do this by purchasing the book on your own. You are able to make an appointment to stop by our office to purchase a book by emailing email@example.com to schedule an appointment before your class or the day of your class.
Books (or Student Manuals) are available for purchase by students prior to registration for all classes, email firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about this process. The American Heart Association requires every student to review the book before class, have a book during class. If a student has access to books prior to class it is encouraged for students to use these books in lieu of purchasing new books. Product numbers are supplied (see below) so that students are able to search out books via online resources. Students taking ACLS and PALS are required to take a precourse self-assessment, directions to do this are found in the book (student manual).

Shipping and Will Call: If a book is selected during the registration process your book can be shipped to you as long as you register more than seven (7) days prior to the start of your class. If you register within seven (7) days you have the option to pick your book up before class – you can also arrange to pick your book up before class if registering more than seven (7) days to save a small shipping and handling fee. You must keep in mind that you are only able to pick your book up at our office by appointment only – this is almost always before regularly scheduled classes at our office. Keep in mind some of our posted classes online may not be held at our office and our staff may not be available allowing you to pick up your book. You must email us your intentions including a date(s) so that we can check our agenda then confirm your appointment. Chicago CPR Now ships your books intact and holds no responsibility for the condition they are received during the shipping process.

4) * * * * * TARDY POLICY * * * * *
All classes have a scheduled start time. The nature of the classes we offer are learning/educational based. Because of this, it is crucial that students receive the entire instruction, more importantly the initial instruction in the beginning of the class. If you are tardy whatsoever past the scheduled start time, you may be asked to leave. The above cancellation policy considering you a no show will then be effective. Phone calls, emails, and other communication are no substitute for being on time – the remaining registered students who arrived prior to the start of the class cannot be penalized for the tardiness of an individual. Please review our address and obtain directions if needed prior to the day of your class. Please arrive early enough to find our office, find parking (free parking on Ravenswood Avenue, in front of and around the building), and find your way to our office. Your anticipated cooperation is appreciated by the management, the instructor, and the other students.
Groups of students who plan on arriving together.
Two or more students who plan on coming to class together must be diligent regarding arriving on time. We are not able to postpone class for a single student, nor are we able to do it for multiple students running late either. This also makes things frustrating for not only the instructor who anticipates a bigger class size, but it compounds the frustration among other students who have arrived on time and now have to wait or be interrupted by a group of late students. Therefore, we enforce this tardy / no show policy in order to make class more enjoyable for everyone.
5) * * * * * PROMOTIONAL CODE POLICY * * * * *
The use of promotional codes are at the discretion of Chicago CPR Now at all times. By using a promotional code (Promo Code) you hereby agree to the following conditions:
* Chicago CPR Now assumes no responsibility if you fail to enter your Promo Code at the time of registration. Depending on the Promo Code, if we have the ability to apply it we will help facilitate your savings. However, Chicago CPR Now can often only apply half the original savings when we are able to apply it in retrospect.
* If you decide to cancel or reschedule your class the promotional code will become invalid, where you will then have to pay the difference of the class plus any associated fees for rescheduling, as above.
* Misuse of any promotional code will result in the delay in the issuance of your CPR card. Issuance will be made when satisfactory payment is complete, an additional transaction/convenience fee of $5 will also be applied per incident. An example of this would include, but not limited to, online Promotional Codes for specific classes on specific days. If you were to use one of these codes for a different day or class and it was accepted you would be subject to these terms.
* Promotional Codes are not valid on any Skills Checks (BLS or Heartsaver First Aid) or current discounted classes or specials. If you are able to apply a code to these classes your card(s) will not be issued till the difference is satisfied, there will also be an additional $5 transaction/convenience fee applied per incident.
In order to issue a course completion eCard your first name, your last name, your email address, and your phone number you provide at the time of registration is transmitted though the American Heart Association’s Instructor Training Network (a website / server maintained by the American Heart Association). It is their means of transmission, their website, and their database. The American Heart Association is responsible for the upkeep and security of their information. Our instructors who have access to this database are only allowed to transmit information – they are not allowed to review information. All steps for security that Chicago CPR Now can implement has been done to protect your information.
The American Heart Association is an international company/business. I am sure they have taken the necessary steps to ensure your privacy. Chicago CPR Now just wants to make you aware of this transaction. It is necessary to receive a course completion eCard so it is a necessary process. Let us know if you have any questions.
