Advanced Cardiac
Life Support

This course is for Healthcare Professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, as well as others who need Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course completion card for work or other requirements.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support emphasizes the importance of Basic Life Support to patient survival, the integration of effective Basic Life Support with advanced cardiovascular life support interventions, and the importance of effective team interaction and communication during resuscitation. Simulated clinical scenarios encourage active, hands-on participation through learning stations where students will practice essential skills individually, as part of a team, and as a team leader.

Realistic simulations reinforce the following key concepts:

  • Proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Recognizing and initiating early management of periarrest conditions
  • Managing cardiac arrest
  • Identifying and treating ischemic chest pain and acute coronary syndromes
  • Recognizing other life-threatening clinical situations (such as stroke) and providing initial care
  • ACLS algorithms
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

After the class, a 50 question multiple choice test is administered.
A passing grade of 84% or better is required before your card can be issued.

Full participation is required, attendance and arriving on time are mandatory to receive a completion card.
Class times will vary depending on class participation and other factors (i.e. questions, participation, how long it takes to finish the test, etc.).

Students will receive an American Heart Association ACLS card (or eCard) at the end of class, as long as the multiple choice test was successfully completed (passing score >84%), all skills stations passed, as well as full attendance. This card is valid for 2 years.

Prerequisites:

  • A current (non-expired) BLS for the Healthcare Provider card
  • Good Basic Life Support skills
  • A precourse self-assessment (directions in student manual and emailed to you before class)
